Cello-guitar duo of Umberto Clerici and Karin Schaupp

Saturday 14 October 2017, 7.30pm at the Cultural Centre, Boonah. The cello-guitar duo of Umberto Clerici and Karin Schaupp brings together two of Australia's finest and most expressive instrumentalists in a fiery program of music from around the world. German-born Australian guitarist Schaupp and newly-arrived-in-Australia Italian cellist Clerici were asked to collaborate for 2015's 70th anniversary Musica Viva Festival in Sydney. They found an immediate musical rapport within the engaging tonal combination of the cello and the guitar.

"... spellbinding ..." Limelight Magazine, April 2016

In 2017 and 2018, Schaupp and Clerici will continue their critically acclaimed collaboration with a programme exploring song throughout the ages. From gentle Spanish lullabies to fiery contemporary works, from Schubert to De Falla, Clerici and Schaupp reinvent beautiful melodies with lush accompaniments for the unique and intoxicating combination of cello and guitar. The listener is taken on an emotional journey through life, with songs drawn from all over the world and from different life stages, interwoven with anecdotes about the inspiration behind these timeless melodies.

Clerici is in high demand as a soloist and chamber musician worldwide, as well as holding the position of principal cellist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Clerici and Schaupp form a formidable duo in what is certain to be an unforgettable and moving musical journey.
