Caring for Country

Friday 16 June 2017, 6pm for 6.30pm at the Centre, Brisbane St Beaudesert. Artists were thrown the challenge: "What can we do to care for country?" Eleven artists, plus Year 9 artists from Boonah State High School, have expressed a positive future on possibilities for the environment and community. In Queensland these artists and writers include Anna Bonshek, Susie Cunningham, Therese Flynn-Clarke, Alinta Krauth, Cal MacKinnon, Elizabeth Poole, Linsey Pollack, Rob Packer, Ailsa Rolley, Christopher Trotter and Kim Williams. This is the official opening of the exhibition, which will feature an On the Couch conversation with Bronwyn Davies and exhibiting artists.

Poetry by the River

Friday 16 June 2017, from 10am at Darlington Park, Beaudesert-Kerry Lost World Road, Darlington. The Beaudesert Bush Bards invite you to enjoy a bush poetry picnic beside the Albert River. Bring your bush poetry collection (or just come to listen), folding chair and picnic lunch. This is a free event. Car pooling is available at 9.30am at the Beaudesert Arts and Information Centre. Scenic Rim Star Party

Saturday 17 June, 3pm at the old Laravale School, Christmas Creek Road, Laravale. Otganised by the Scenic Rim Astronomy Association, there will be sky tours, workshops, meteor displays, telescope tours, daylight rocket launches, Gravity Well demo. Solar viewing from 3pm, and night viewing from 5.30pm. Listen to storms on Jupiter and the sun. Bring your own camera and tripod for an astro photography workshop.. Cost is a gold coin donation to Camp Crystal - child cancer support. See SRAA.org.au for the final program.

Art Show Jimboomba

Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular at Boonah

Saturday 17 June-Sunday 18 June, at Boonah. For more information, click here. The Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular was launched on February 26, 2013 and is a sub-committee of the Boonah Show Society Inc. This will showcase the best of the breed, and will be the premier breed-specific show for Clydesdales in Queensland. Chamber Orchestra Cologne Concert

Saturday 17 June 2017, 7pm at St John the Baptist Church, Tamborine Mountain. This wonderful orchestra from Germany is returning for concerts in the Scenic Rim. Sunday 25 June 2017 at Jubilee Park, Telemon St, Beaudesert. Adopt a local farmer or ingredient - menus will feature Running Creek finger lime kombucha, paelle with Tarome red claw or a Boonah burger featuring Rathdowny beef and Kalbar carrots. This event caters to the growing demand for local food, and is a part of the Eat Local Week event.

An Afternoon of Classics with the Davonski Concert Orchestra

Saturday 22 July 2017 at 2pm, at Harvest Point Church, 25 Walker St, Gleneagle. Conducted by Noel Bowden, the orchestra will present an entertaining program from Mozart to Strauss, Bizet's "Carmen" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Admission is $20, children under 12 free. This concert supports the efforts of ADORE (Australians Defending Orphans' Rights Everywhere) Little Children Botswana by raising awareness and funds for the children affected by the HIV and Aids virus in the Okavango Delta.

Scenic Rim Bioblitz

Sunday 15 October 2017 10am-Tuesday 17 October 10am. The Scenic Rim branch of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland is organising a 2-day Bioblitz on private and public land on the western slopes of Tamborine Mountain, followed by a week of accepting photos and descriptions of animals, plants and fungi from across the shire. The aim is to identify as many species as possible within a given area for 48 hours starting from 10am Sunday morning (after opening by "Bilby Brother" Frank Manthey) 15 October. There will be experts on hand to assist with identification.
