Lamington National Park: Binna Burra and Green Mountains
The journey to Green Mountains or Binna Burra is a great family day out. Lamington National Park has something for everyone, from those looking for a peaceful day out to those looking for a bit of adventure in the tree tops.
Binna Burra
Forward journey:
Beaudesert to Canungra (30 minutes)
From the Beaudesert Community Arts & Information Centre turn right into Mt Lindesay Hwy travelling south towards the town centre.
At the traffic lights, turn left, and follow the road out of town for approximately 18kms.
Turn right at Mundoolun Connection Road, and follow the road towards and into Canungra (15kms).
Travel through Canungra township towards the Gold Coast/Nerang.
Just outside Canungra, on the right, stop at the historic Lahey's Tram Tunnel and stretch your legs.
Enjoy the short 90m walk through the hand dug sandstone tunnel.
For more information about the tunnel stop in and see the friendly volunteers at the Canungra Visitor Information Centre back in the centre of town.
Canungra to Binna Burra (30-45 minutes, winding road)
Exit the Lahey's Tram Tunnel stop, turn right, follow the road for approximately 1km.
Turn right into Beechmont Road and follow the road into Beechmont township (17kms).
Turn right at the T-intersection into Binna Burra Road and follow the road into Binna Burra (11kms).
What to do in Binna Burra:
Rainforest Circuit Walk (1.2km return), an easy walk.

Lamington Teahouse for morning tea or a light lunch.
Return journey:
Binna Burra to Canungra
Return to Canungra via Binna Burra Road.
Turn left into Beechmont Road and follow the road towards Canungra.
On the right, just before the Canungra turnoff on Beechmont Road stop at the Museum of Australian Military Intelligence - Kokoda Barracks. For more information pick up a brochure at the local visitor information centre.
Turn left at the T-intersection, into Beaudesert-Nerang Road and follow the road into Canungra township.
Once back in Canungra stop at the historic Canungra Hotel, or a local cafe for a late lunch and the opportunity to wander the shops in Canungra's main street.
Canungra to Beaudesert
Return to Beaudesert along Beaudesert-Nerang Road from Canungra and through to Mundoolun Connection Road.
Turn left at the T-intersection at Beenleigh-Beaudesert Road and follow the road into Beaudesert (18kms).
Green Mountains

Canungra to Green Mountains (45 - 60 minutes, narrow, winding road)
In the centre of Canungra, turn right, into Kidston St/Lamington National Park Road. Follow the road past the historic Canungra Hotel through to Green Mountains.
What to do in Green Mountains:
Tree tops walk (45 minutes), easy walk.
Rainforest walk (1.4km return), easy walk.
Morning tea at O'Reilly's Mountain Cafe and enjoy the diverse bird life and view from the wide verandas.
Take a picnic and enjoy the well-set-up picnic grounds.
Return journey:
Green Mountains to Canungra
Return to Canungra on the Lamington National Park Road.
Stop at O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyard for lunch in the homestead or a gourmet picnic in the grounds by the creek. O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyard also has cellar door tastings available.
Continue along Lamington National Park Road into Canungra township.
Once back in Canungra take some time to stroll the town's friendly shops and parks.
Stay for a late afternoon tea at a local cafe or enjoy a cold drink at the historic Canungra Hotel.
Canungra to Beaudesert
Return to Beaudesert along Beaudesert-Nerang road from Canungra and through to Mundoolun Connection Road.
Turn left at the T-intersection at Beenleigh-Beaudesert Road and follow the road into Beaudesert (18kms).
