Lyn Condon
Lyn Condon is a well-known local painter, calligrapher and musician. She began to draw as soon as she could pick up a pencil, and she was winning awards for her art at a very young age. She later studied at Brisbane Technical College, now QUT, and has had exhibitions in the Gold Coast City Art Gallery and on Tamborine Mountain.
Lyn's painting is characterised by beautiful brushwork and vibrant colour. Her artwork includes traditional paintings, miniatures and murals, but her passion is calligraphy, and her miniature calligraphic work is exquisite. It features text so small that she uses a magnifying glass. The calligraphy is in the style of the illuminated manuscripts, with delicate gold leaf decorating the capital letters. She has won awards in the U.K. and the U.S., and is a member of the predtigious Hilliard Society and the Society of Limners in England, and the Cider Painters of America. Her calligraphic work is regularly exhibited and sold overseas, where she has won many awards. These works, some of which are available in our Lyrebird Gallery, are collectors' items.
Oils, watercolours, acrylics, gouache and gold leaf are the media used by Lyn in her paintings, which range in size from the tiny calligraphic masterpieces to murals which cover several walls.
Based in the Scenic Rim area for over 40 years, Lyn has however travelled extensively in Australian country regions with her husband, who is a singer. She has combined her painting with music, accompanying her husband on bass.
In the Northern Territory Lyn was resident artist, painting murals at Wycliffe Well Roadhouse, and later at the Riverview Caravan Park in Katherine, where passing travellers can still see her large-scale works.
Lyn holds weekly art classes at her home because she enjoys sharing her love of art with others. Whatever you want to paint, she will teach you! She can be contacted on 0427 460 730 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
