Margaret Dennis

A life-long love of art and a keen eye for detail have helped Margaret become the talented and well-known artist she is today.

Born in Beaudesert, she spent her early years on the family farm at Running Creek. Her artistic flair emerged early through dress-making and millinery. When she married, she moved to a grazing property at Mundoolun, where her three children were raised. It was here that her love of painting began and flourished. A mostly self-taught artist, her vibrant paintings of flowers and of the mountains of the Scenic Rim were first displayed at the Beaudesert Post Office.

The Jimboomba shopping centre soon invited Margaret to paint in the mall every Friday and Saturday, which she did no matter what the weather! The works sold well.

An opportunity arose in 1995 to open an art studio and gallery in Centre 9 in Beaudesert. Here she gained many commissions, and her album shows many fine paintings of carefully researched early Beaudesert town scenes, as well as landscapes throughout the shire. A prolific and versatile artist, her works hang on many walls, both in Australia and in other countries. In Beaudesert her paintings can be seen at the RSL club and here in the Lyrebird Gallery of the Arts and Information Centre.

Margaret paints in oils, acrylics and in pastels, and she taught these techniques to both adults and children for many years at her Beaudesert studio. In 2004 though Margaret wanted a more casual lifestyle, so she gave up her studio and gallery. She now teaches twice a week at Browns Plains.

Her love of art will never end.
